Christian girls soft target for Islamist terror: Minority Commission to MHA

NCM has written a letter to MHA revealing that the Christian girls are a soft target for Islamist terror recruiters in Kerala. The vice-chairman of George Kurian has appealed the Home Ministry to take up the matter seriously as the NCM has received complaints from two Christian families expressing the fear that the girl could have been misled or cheated or abducted and led astray with very nefarious designs like joining an outfit such as ISI or being used as a slave.

New Delhi:National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has revealed that Christian girls are a soft target for Islamist terror recruiters in Kerala.

Demanding a high-level probe by National Investigating Agency (NIA), NCM vice-chairman George Kurian dashed a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday.

In his letter, Kurian said that the spate of organised religious conversions and using the victims for terror activities by trapping them through 'love jihad' has shown that the Christian community is a soft target for Islamic radicals.

"The National Commission for Minorities is in receipt of complaints from two Christian families. In their complaint, the families expressed the fear that the girl could have been misled or cheated or abducted and led astray with very nefarious designs like joining an outfit such as ISI or being used as a slave," read the letter by Kurian.

The letter further appealed to the MHA to take up the matter seriously, given the experiences in the earlier similar cases.

"The issue is serious and it could lead to communal disharmony in the state. The Home Ministry should take note of this alarming trend and order a probe by NIA and bring in an effective law to curb such fraudulent activities of radicalized elements," the letter said.

Reports suggest that out of the 21 persons who joined the Islamic State from Kerala, five were converted from Christianity.
