New Delhi: Following the cancellation of the Joint launch of a commemorative stamp by China on Wednesday, Beijing said since India did not give feedback before launch time, the event had to be cancelled.

Taking to Twitter spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in India Ji Rong said “ Regarding cancellation of the joint issue of a commemorative stamp to mark 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between #China and #India, the reason is Indian side had not given feedback before launch time agreed by both sides. China State Post Bureau made the notice according to customary practices”.

China and India were to jointly launch commemorative stamps to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties on Tuesday cancelled plans, according to Chinese state media CGTN report.

China's State Post Bureau had planned with India to jointly launch a stamp in April commemorating 2020 as the 70th year of bilateral relations and a special stamp showing the Mogao Caves, a renowned site in China's Gansu province where the Buddhist grottoes reflect the two countries' cultural links.

“China’s State Post Bureau has decided to cancel its plan to jointly launch commemorative stamps with India, according to a statement released on its website on Tuesday," reported Chinese state media China Global Television Network (CGTN).

India and China had planned a series of events to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, plans which have been disrupted both by the COVID-19 pandemic and the worst crisis on the border in decades, sparked by China’s multiple transgressions across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) starting in May.

The diplomatic ties between India and China have turned sour ever since the Galwan valley clash in the Ladakh region took place between the two nations. At least 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the western Himalayas after being attacked by Chinese troops using rocks and clubs. Both sides have been working relentlessly to ease border tensions in eastern Ladakh.
