Chidambaram fine, need not be hospitalised as per AIIMS report: SG Tushar Mehta to Delhi HC

The Delhi HC was informed about the former finance minister P Chidambaram's health condition that he is fine and does not require hospitalisation as mentioned by the AIIMS Medical Board in their report. However, the court has directed the Tihar jail superintendent to provide clean and hygienic surrounding as well as home-cooked food including other facilities to Chidambaram.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court (HC) was informed on Friday that former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, lodged in Tihar jail in the INX Media money laundering case, is fine and does not require hospitalisation.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta read out the report of AIIMS Medical Board, set up on the court's order to examine Chidambaram's health condition, and said the Congress leader does not require a sterile environment.

Earlier on October 29, it has come to light that Chidambaram has been suffering from the chronic Crohn's disease and needs immediate specialised treatment at a super speciality hospital.

Earlier on October 31, the Court had directed AIIMS to constitute a medical board by the evening to assess the Chidambaram's health and submit a report on Friday.

AIIMS has been directed to constitute a medical board comprising of Dr Nageshwar Reddy (family doctor of P Chidambaram from Hyderabad) for Chidambram's treatment there.

Meanwhile, the medical report was read in front of the HC on Friday by Mehta.

Justice Suresh Kait, who was hearing Chidambaram's interim bail plea, directed the Tihar jail superintendent to provide clean and hygienic surrounding to the politician and also home-cooked food, mineral water, mosquito protection net and repellant.

The court also directed that Chidambaram's regular medical check-up be done.

The court disposed of the plea after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Chidambaram, said they do not require any further direction.
