Chhattisgarh: Fake notes of Rs 1.75 lakh seized, four held

Chhattisgarh Police on Monday seized fake currencies worth Rs 1.75 lakh along with motorcycles, cellphones and an air gun. Four people have been arrested and all the accused have been booked under Section 489C.

Mahasamund: Police seized counterfeit currency notes totalling Rs 1.75 lakh from Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh on Monday and arrested four persons. Cops said that three motorcycles, two cellphones and one air gun were also recovered, adding that two accused belong to Odisha and rest of them are natives of Chhattisgarh.

Giving details of the incident, Praful Kumar Thakur, police officer, said, "Acting on a tip off, we launched a search and cordon operation in the area in Basna area. We received specific inputs that people from Odisha come to Bastar and its adjoining areas and are involved in business of fake currencies. Our team reached Bhanwarpur, we interrogated two persons who revealed their identities as Jayant Yadav and Besikesan Pradhan. However, they confessed to their crimes that they were involved in the trade of counterfeit currencies."

Fake currencies of various denominations were seized by the cops and the accused also tried to attack the cops during the search operation.

On a similar note, he added, "We have recovered 375 fake notes of 200 denominations worth Rs 75,000 from Yadav and Pradhan. We also seized 650 fake notes of 200 denominations worth Rs 1,00,000 of from Satpati Sahu and Vikas Patil who belong to Odisha.

"The kingpin of the racket, Satpati Sahu has many cases registered against him. We also alerted the Odisha police who helped us in solving the case," Thakur added.

All the accused have been booked under Section 489C (possession of forged or counterfeit currency notes or bank notes).
