New Delhi: After COVID-19 hit the nation, the issue of migrant workers became a hard pill to swallow for the government, with its plans and structure failing miserably to cater to the needs of people.
According to the 2012 India census, Delhi's population was estimated to be around one crore ninety lakh, however, every year another five lakh migrate to the capital disbalancing the projects of the government.
The government conducts a census every ten years to ascertain details of its citizens, which in turn also helps in streamlining the projects for the people according to the population size of the state and city.

The new date for the initiation of the sixteenth census of the nation will be announced by the government soon and this year the process will be different from the usual.
Keeping up with technology, this year the census taking will be digitalised in which around 30 lakh workers will be involved.
Using a specialised app for data gathering, the volunteers will be trained about the process and the questionnaire will be made available in 16 Indian languages.
33 specific questions will be asked from people, regarding their house, toilets, drinking water availability, sewage, power connection and number of gadgets in the house.
Using the information provided by the respondents, the government will for plans and projects for the upcoming ten years.
Census taking was introduced by the Britishers in 1872 and is followed still.

The first census was taken under the British Viceroy Lord Mayo and in 1881, a complete census was completed.
From 1901, the census has been taken every ten years to help the government in the formulation of policies and the last census of India was done in 2011.
