CBSE compartment exams: SC to hear matter again on Sept 14

The Supreme Court today said it would hear once again on September 14 the petition challenging the CBSE's decision to hold compartment exams after college admissions ended. It also directed the petitioner to serve the law officer of the Union of India in the matter.

New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the petitioner challenging the CBSE's decision of conducting the class 10 and 12 compartment exams by September end, to serve the petition to the law officer of the Union of India, and adjourned the matter for hearing again on September 14.

The bench led by Justice AM Khanwilkar was hearing a petition challenging the CBSE's decision to conduct compartment exams by September end when the admissions to the colleges will already be over.

The court was informed today that the CBSE's decision to conduct exams in hybrid mode, where last year's exam was used for assessment, has left a lot of students with compartment exams.

The college admissions ended on August 31 and the compartment exams to be held from September 22 will waste the whole year of the student, the court was told.

The apex court observed that this is a very peculiar year and the solution cannot be given by CBSE, but another agency.

After mulling over the idea of issuing notice to either states or universities, the court decided to serve the Centre so that complications can be avoided.
