CBI raids Indira Jaising, Anand Grover in foreign funding case

Senior lawyers, Indira Jaising and Anand Grover's residences were raided by the CBI in connection to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) violation case. The couple has been accused of misusing foreign contributions and spending funds outside India.

New Delhi:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has carried out raids at the residences of Supreme Court advocates Indira Jaising and Anand Grover, in connection with Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) violation case.

Supreme Court in May had issued notice to advocates Indira Jaising and Anand Grover, and their NGO Lawyers' Collective, while hearing a petition filed by petitioner Lawyer's Voice seeking status of investigations into an alleged case of FCRA violation by the NGO.

The agency's action comes almost a month after it registered a case against the Mumbai-based NGO 'Lawyers Collective' and its President Anand Grover for alleged violation of Foreign Contribution (Regulations) Act (FCRA), criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust on June 13, after receiving a Home Ministry report in this regard.

According to the CBI, unknown officer-bearers and functionaries of the NGO, private persons and public servants have also been accused in the FIR.

The Home Ministry report said that the NGO was registered for carrying out social activities and it received Rs 32.39 crore from 2006-07 to 2014-15.

However, the violation of the FCRA was noticed in 2010, the complaint said.
