New Delhi:The Supreme Court has once again extended the deadline for the CBI court to pronounce its judgement on the role of BJP leaders LK Advani, MM Joshi and Uma Bharti in the Babri masjid demolition.
The bench led by Justice RF Nariman has set the new date as 30th September after the progress report indicated that more time will be required.
Earlier the court had ordered to deliver the verdict by 31st August as the special judge had sought for more time.
Due to COVID 19 and subsequent lockdown, the courts were not functioning in their full capacities and therefore there was a delay in wrapping up the case and more time had to be sought.
Last year the apex court ruled that at the Ayodhya disputed site, a Ram Mandir shall be constructed and an alternate land should be given to Muslims to build a mosque compensating for the destruction of Babri masjid. That matter was settled but the accused have been facing trial for the demolition.
