New Delhi: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has demanded the Central government on Sunday to immediately initiate sedition proceedings against e-commerce company Flipkart over derogatory remarks against Nagaland.

Reportedly, Flipkart told a customer in Nagaland that it didn't provide services in the state since the location was "outside India".

Following this, a statement by CAIT said that it would take up the "serious matter" with Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking to media persons, the National General Secretary of CAIT, Pravin Khandelwal said, "It is highly shocking and unbelievable. By calling Nagaland 'outside India', Flipkart has not only disrespected the sentiments of the people of Nagaland and the North-East but also hurt every Indian."

He also tweeted about it, calling the comment a “shameful act”.

While Flipkart, following immediate backlash on social media, later deleted the comment and apologised for the faux pas, users had already taken screenshots, which were widely shared on social media.

Khandelwal said that he would take up this serious matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

"After deleting that tweet, Flipkart cannot be forgiven. Staying in India and telling a state of the country as out of the country is an unforgivable crime and against which strict action should be taken under the law," he said.

He also said that no apology can be accepted for such a serious and false statement that only an enemy can say. Because this statement was made from the official Twitter handle of Flipkart. Therefore it cannot be taken as one’s personal view.
