New Delhi: Underlining that the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was an internal matter of India, the Congress party on Tuesday said no nation or organisation has any right to interfere in the internal matters of the country.

Speaking to ETV Bharat here, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Panna Lal Punia said the government introduces bills in the parliament and once they are passed, they become laws for the country and it's a parliamentary democratic system and no one from outside the country has any right to interfere in the process.

"It's an internal matter of India. No nation or organisation can actually interfere in it," he said, adding that Congress has been opposing it and will do the same in Rajya Sabha as well when the bill goes to the Upper House on Wednesday.

After the bill was passed by the Lower House of the Parliament on Monday, the US Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) expressed concern saying it was deeply troubled over the passage of the bill as it enshrines a pathway to citizenship for immigrants that specifically excludes Muslims, setting a legal criterion for citizenship based on religion.

Responding to comments of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on the bill wherein he had said that it was an agenda of the RSS to make India a Hindu Rashtra, the Congress leader said Pakistan is not a well-wisher of India and it would never say a good thing about our country.

"Pakistan should stay away from it as it's an internal matter of India," Punia reiterated.
