Gazipur: A 62-year-old Bahujan Samajwadi party (BSP) worker was found dead on late Tuesday night in Uttar Pradesh. The incident was reported from Mehrajganj under Kotwali police station limits. The deceased party worker has been identified as Munnu Prasad.

According to sources, Prasad was upset as he was allegedly asked to pay Rs 2 crore extortion money for a party ticket.

The police have recovered a suicide note from the crime scene and the body has been sent for post-mortem. Primary reports suggest that the deceased had consumed poison which led to his death.

"I was asked to pay Rs 2 crore for the party ticket. Since I was not able to arrange Rs 2 crore, I am ending my life," his suicide note read.

In his note, the victim has also appealed to the police administration to take care of his family.

"Munnu Prasad, a utensil trader by profession, was a dedicated worker and he was preparing for the upcoming elections. We were not aware that he was going through this stress. It's only after his death we know that he was upset over extortion money," his family members said.

A special team of forensic experts, along with the police team, also visited the crime scene and is investigating the matter. Police are also looking into the call detail records of the deceased.
