New Delhi: A meeting of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India-China Border Affairs will be taking place on Thursday as part of the dialogue between the two countries for disengagement along LAC in Eastern Ladakh and de-escalation of troops. The WMCC talks are headed by joint secretary-level officials from both sides.
The WMCC meeting comes at a time when the military talks to reduce the border tensions have hit a roadblock with the Indian Army adopting a tougher stance to restore status quo ante in eastern Ladakh.
It is expected that the Indian side will reiterate its demand for China to sincerely work towards complete disengagement and de-escalation along the LAC. India has already made it clear that the sanctity of the LAC is non-negotiable.
China has been rigid on its stance during the diplomatic and military talks. It has not disengaged in Finger area, Depsang plains and Gogra after multiple rounds of military and diplomatic talks.

The seventeenth meeting of WMCC was held last month in which the two countries agreed for the early and complete disengagement of the troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The meetings also stressed on the de-escalation from India-China border areas in accordance with bilateral agreement and protocols and full restoration of peace and tranquillity was essential for the smooth overall development of bilateral relations.
Two WMCC meetings have been held in July in which both the countries reviewed the border situation including disengagement process along the LAC.
Chinese troops have been camping in the Finger area for over three months now and have even started fortifying their bases with the construction of bunkers and sangars.
India has said that it expects that China will sincerely work with it for complete disengagement of troops along LAC in Eastern Ladakh and de-escalation along with the full restoration of peace and tranquillity in the border areas.
