"The have already purchased four MPs of a particular party who have decided to abstain from the House. A BJP minister from Assam is distributing bundles of money to MPs to gather their support over the bill," alleged Gogoi.

Despite the horse-trading, people in Assam will not allow the government to pass the bill, come what may, Gogoi said, adding, the KMSS is trying to unite the opposition against the contentious bill.

According to Gogoi , the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is a violation of the Assam Accord 1985.

The KMSS leader and several other representatives of different organisations have been campaigning in the national capital for some time to get support against the Citizenship Bill.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 seeking to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan was passed by the Lok Sabha amid protests by opposition parties who termed the proposed law "divisive" and "flawed".
