BJP slams Shashi Tharoor for 'defaming' India at Lahore Literature Festival

BJP launched a scathing attack on the Thiruvananthapuram MP for 'defaming' India at a Pakistan stage and said that it was unbelievable that Congress leader can give such a statement against India on a platform which is being watched worldwide. Tharoor had pulled up the Modi government while speaking at Lahore Literature Festival questioning India's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday slammed Congress leader Shashi Tharoor for 'defaming' India and lauding Pakistan's COVID fighting at Lahore Literature Festival.

Briefing reporters, Party spokesperson, Sambit Patra alleged that Tharoor mocked India's COVID fight.

"Tharoor said that the Government of India is failing in the management of COVID. The whole world is watching how PM Modi protected the people during the pandemic and served food to at least 80 crore people," Patra claimed.

Patra further said that it is unbelievable that Congress leader can give such a statement against India on a platform which is being watched worldwide.

"He not only made fun of India but also demeaned it", he added.

Earlier on Sunday, Tharoor had pulled up the Modi government while speaking at Lahore Literature Festival questioning India’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his virtual address, Tharoor raised several issues from US President Donald Trump's February visit to the Tablighi Jamaat and sought validation for Rahul Gandhi saying the former Congress president had alerted the Modi government about the pandemic but the PM failed to act.
