New Delhi:The leader of the opposition in Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia on Friday said that Home Minister Amit Shah has been talking in the fascist and autocratic style during the whole CAA row.

Taking a jibe at Amit Shah over his statement on CAA, Saikia said, "A leader who got elected in a democratic way can't speak in an autocratic style. BJP got the majority, but they are not above Parliament."

Amit Shah has recently said that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will not be rolled back in spite of the continuous agitation and protest by opposition parties.

"Let the opposition parties do protest, but we will not roll back CAA," Shah has said in a recent public meeting.

Debabrata Saikia said that Congress will raise the CAA issue in all forthcoming elections as well as on all platforms.

Saikia, however, denied the allegations made by the former president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Vikas Singh that senior advocate in the Supreme Court Kapil Sibal did oppose a stay order over CAA.

Referring to Singh's allegation, Saikia said, "Kapil Sibal did not oppose a stay over CAA. In fact, when the hon'ble court rejected the stay proposal, Sibal asked to delay the implementation process of CAA."

Since the enactment of CAA on December 12 last year, protests have erupted in various parts of the country including the national capital. The CAA grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and came to India on or before 31,2014
