Tractor rally on Republic Day is wrong: BJP

Speaking to ETV Bharat, BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain questioned the farmers' decision to hold their tractor rally on Republic Day, an occasion which he said was reserved for the nation to showcase its military prowess.

New Delhi: BJP national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain on Monday said that it was wrong that the farmers, misguided by the opposition parties, were adamant on holding the tractor rally on Republic Day.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Hussain said that the government has always kept its doors open for the farmers, and even encouraged them to come out and talk on a common platform.

Hussain said the farmers must understand that Republic Day is meant for showcasing the country's military prowess and said the farmers should have agreed with the government and not held the rally on January 26.

"The day belongs to the forces and people want to see tanks and the country's military prowess. But if the farmers, misguided by the opposition parties, are adamant on the tractor rally, then it is wrong," Hussain said, adding that the country's image would also be affected.

The BJP leader further said that the government had agreed to more than half of the farmers' demands, and that the farmers must realise that the opposition parties that had been tricking them, did not have the farmers' best interests in their mind.

Meanwhile, Hussain also hit out at West Bengal Chief Minister for refusing to deliver her speech at the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose after she was greeted with 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans.

Hussain questioned why the Chief Minister had been reacting in such a way against the slogan.

Meanwhile, the BJP wished for the good health of ailing RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, who has been admitted to AIIMS.
