BJP leader reacts to Bernie Sanders tweet; deleted later

Bernie Sanders, a US Democratic presidential nominee, had accused US President Donald Trump of failing on human rights with his response to the Delhi violence. Replaying him sharply, senior BJP leader, BL Santhosh has suggested that India would be "compelled" to play a role in the US presidential elections. However, the tweet was deleted this morning.

New Delhi:After responding sharply in Twitter to US democrat front runner Bernie Sanders, senior BJP leader BL Santhosh has deleted his tweet on Thursday.

According to social media sources, Bernie had criticised US President Donald Trump in connection with his recent visit and reply to a question on violence in Delhi.

Bernie had accused Donald Trump of failing on human rights with his response to the Delhi violence.

Counter attacking him, Santhosh, a general secretary of the ruling party, had suggested that India would be "compelled" to play a role in the US presidential elections.

"Over 200 million Muslims call India home. Widespread anti-Muslim mob violence has killed at least 27 and injured many more. Trump responds by saying "That's up to India". This is a failure of leadership on human rights," Mr Sanders tweeted on Wednesday.

Santhosh tweeted in reply: "However, much ever neutral we wish to be you compel us to play a role in presidential elections. Sorry to say so...But you are compelling us."

It is pertinent to be mentioned here that, the tweet was deleted this morning.

Notably, During Trump's visit, he praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also called him a "great friend" and a "very popular leader".

The violence in northeast Delhi, which has left as many as 34 dead and over 200 injured, cast a shadow on Mr Trump's two-day visit, which was viewed as his outreach to the Indian American community, a sizeable group of voters, as he faces a re-election bid in the US presidential polls later this year.
