New Delhi: After the Union Minister and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar called Rahul Gandhi "liar of the year," Congress party slammed him saying that "BJP hides behind petty politics by making such statements to cover their failures as a government."

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera speaking to media

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, "Congress has a responsibility as an opposition party to voice the concerns and articulate questions of the unemployed youth, to voice the concerns of all who have been affected by the flawed economy, demonetization, GST, and to voice the concerns of all women who do not feel safe at all in this country. For that, we ask tough questions from the government. Our leader Rahul Gandhi did the same, today, at an event in Chhattisgarh."

Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar also accused the Congress party of trying to fan instability in the country regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens.

"This government is either too arrogant to respond to these questions or they don't have any answer. To cover their failures, they hide behind a very petty level of politics. But Congress party is not bothered about these petty methods of diverting attention from the real issues and will continue to ask questions," Khera further added.

While responding to the accusation of BJP leader Ram Madhav who said that National Population Register was the brainchild of Congress party and now they are trying to spread rumours, Khera said, "NPR was added to the census during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government, in 2003. I think BJP leader Ram Madhav should check the records. Those orders for the amendments that were being done in the census were released by the Home Ministry in 2003. We implemented those orders but they stopped the procedure in between, which has been clarified by the Congress party earlier as well."
