BJP has destroyed our name at the global stage: Congress

Reacting on the Citizen (Amendment) Bill, Congress MP, Mohammed Jawed said that the Saffron Party has ruined the name of the country at the global level by implementing National Register of Citizens of India (NRC) and CAB. Earlier, India is known as a 'secular' state but BJP has made it a 'sickular' state.

New Delhi: After the US International Commission in Religious Freedom (USCIRF) expressed concern about the Citizenship Amendment Bill by calling it a "dangerous turn in the wrong direction" and the government should consider "sanctions against the Home Minister", Congress said slamming the BJP government saying, "the party has destroyed our name in the global stage."

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress MP, Mohammed Jawed said, "We were known as a secular democratic progressive nation. The nations which were our friends earlier have become our enemies. In the past five years, BJP has destroyed our name at the global level."

Over the statement given by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, Mohd Jawed said, "Pakistan will be the happiest nation if our name gets spoiled."

Imran Khan attacked the Modi government and the BJP's parent organization, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), claiming the Citizenship Amendment Bill was a part of a "Hindu Rashtra" design of "expansionism."

The Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed on Monday by the Lok Sabha, having an overwhelming majority and despite facing strong objections from the opposition parties. Mohd Jawed said, "The bill is totally unconstitutional and very dangerous. BJP is basically trying to target the Muslims in order to hide their own failures as a government. Everyone knows that they are a right-wing party but now they are projecting that they are anti-Muslims as well."

"The results will be very dangerous if this bill gets passed and the situation of this country will get worsened after that," he added. The bill is yet to be discussed in Rajya Sabha. However, a huge outrage is being seen in many parts of the country against this bill.
