Police break up IPL betting network in Bihar

One arrest was made as police smashed a betting network in Jamalpur area. Rs six lakhs in cash, mobile phones and a laptop was taken from the suspect for investigation.

Jamalpur: A man betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches was arrested from Munger's Jamalpur area of Bihar on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police Lipi Singh was informed that a large network of betting is being run in the area. She immediately directed the District Intelligence Unit of East Colony Police Station In-charge Dharmendra Kumar to take action.

Police caught Kailash alias Kalia red-handed and recovered over Rs 6 lakh cash, a laptop and four mobile phones.

Police have booked the accused men under sections of Gambling act and 66 B (Cyber-crime) of IT act with others.

Police said that the recovered records suggesting betting placed on the match by the Kalia's network are worth over Rs 50 lakh. A lot of people were involved in this betting business and Kalia was operating this network by his mobile phone from home.

During the interrogation, he disclosed many names who were involved in the betting.

An FIR has been lodged in the East Colony police station. The Income Tax Department and the Election Commission have also been informed of the cash seizure.
