23 NDRF teams deployed, 10,000 people rescued

Twenty-three teams of National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) have been deployed in the flood-ravaged Patna's Bihta and 10,000 people have been rescued. 9th Battalion NDRF Chief Vijay Sinha informed that 23 teams have been placed in 14 flood-hit areas and efforts are underway to rescue people. Five teams in Saran, four in East Champaran, two each in Darbhanga, Samastipur, Gopallganj have been deployed. One team of NDRF has been placed in Katihar, Kisanganj, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, West Champaran, Siwan, Vaishali and Muzaffarpur. Covid-19 protocols have been put in place and neceassqry precautions are being undertaken to contain the spread of the virus.

Floods breach embankment in Darbhanga

Heavy floods and over-flowing of river waters and have breached embankment in Darbhanga's Kajrapatti near Birne village. There is a strong current in the floodwater that has overtopped at several places and put pressure on embankments. Floodwaters have entered the houses as there is a 20 feet breach in the embankment. District administration claimed that people have not been getting adequate support from the state government. At least 100 villagers and 50 labourers are engaged in the repair and construction work of the breached embankment.

Flood waters enter villages of Muzaffarpur

Tirhut canal breaches embankment in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district

An embankment of Tirhut canal in Bihar's Muzaffarpurdistrict breached in the early hours of Sunday, inundating at least six villages, an official release said.

Floodwaters have entered several villages in Muraul block area in Muzaffarpur, thus creating problems for people to commute. Electricity has been disrupted in most of the places and teams of NDRF have been deployed for rescue and relief operations. 

People claimed that they have not received any assistance from the government and they are ferried on two-wheelers. 

The breach took place around 3.30 am near Pilkhi village of Muraul block, the release said.

"There is a 50-60 feet breach in the embankment," the release said.

Two teams of the NationalDisaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed at the site, under Mohammadpur Kothi panchayat, and relief work is being carried out as per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the release said.

Attributing the reason behind the breach to the pressure of floodwater in the canal which is connected to Budhi Gandak river, the release said, the affected people of the nearby villages had been already been shifted to safer places.
