Bengaluru violence: CCB seize cops' firearms, pistol

In the latest development in Bengaluru violence, CCB team has seized the weapons used by the cops to pacify the situation on the incident night. Four more people have been arrested in connection with the riots and 400 people have been arrested till now.

Bengaluru: City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths investigating the Bengaluru riots seized the cops' firearms and pistols used by them for firing at the unruly mob to quell the violence on the incident night. The seized weapons have been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team for further investigation and around 117 bullets have been confiscated.

Meanwhile, four more people have been arrested by the DG Halli police team. The accused have been identified as Tausif, Fazil, Afzal and Pasha and all four of them have been taken into custody. According to the cops, the four accused were involved in gathering the rowdy mob at KG Halli and DJ Halli police station to carry out the protest.

Around 400 people have been arrested in connection with the riots and the cops are yet to come with the newly arrested record. Besides numerous arrest, several others have been detained for questioning.

Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy's statement was also recorded on Wednesday by the cops. City police commissioner Kamal Pant visited DJ Halli police station to look after the investigation.

The violence in D J Halli and adjoining areas on Tuesday night was unleashed by hundreds of people over a purportedly inflammatory social media post allegedly put out by P Naveen, a relative of Murthy.

The MLA's residence and a police station at DJ Halli were torched by rioters who also set many police and private vehicles afire, and looted the belongings of the legislator and his sister.

Two Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leaders Muzamil Pasha and Kaleem Pasha have been arrested for reportedly inciting the violence in the city over a 'communally sensitive' post. The Karnataka government is mulling to ban SDPI and Popular Front of India (PFI) for their alleged involvement in the violence.

On August 11, areas under Pulakeshinagar assembly constituency in Bengaluru resembled a war zone after an unruly mob went on a rampage torching vehicles and set the police vans on fire. Charred vehicles, shards of glass from broken windows, stones and bricks lie strewn over the deserted roads of the violence-affected localities. Karnataka Tourism Minister CT Ravi and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya have requested Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to attach properties of those involved in the riot.
