Beat BJP leaders with shoes said, Congress over Hegde remarks on Mahatama Gandhi

Amid violence at Shaheen Bagh in the last three days, Congress Spokesperson Meem Afzal alleged that Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is behind the violence. He also asked the people to beat former union minister Anantkumar Hegde with their shoes, over his controversial remark of terming Mahatama Gandhi's hunger strikes and satyagraha as 'drama'.

New Delhi:Congress nation Spokesperson Meem Afzal on Monday slammed the BJP government for inciting violence in the national capital.

In a conversation with ETV Bharat, the spokesperson alleged that the recent violence that took place in Jamia and Shaheen Bagh were incited by the ruling party.

A gunman on Saturday fired bullets in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh locality, which has emerged as the epicentre of nationwide protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. However, no reports of injuries were reported.

"The ruling party is responsible for inciting violence in the country. BJP Minister Anurag Thakur said, 'Desh ke gaddaro ko, Goli maro...." and BJP MP Parvesh Singh said, 'Shaheen Bagh protestors will enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters.' He also called Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a terrorist and PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are maintaining 'mute mode' over the issues.

Taking a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and former union minister Anantkumar Hegde over his controversial remark of terming Mahatama Gandhi's hunger strikes and satyagraha as 'drama', Afzal said that for them (BJP), the meaning of freedom is to divide the country on the basis of religion.

The spokesperson also asked the people to 'beat the BJP leader with shoes'.

The saffron party is working on the policy of - Panga (Quarrel), Danga (Riots) and then postpone the Delhi assembly election, added Meem.

The opposition staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha on Monday after Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, pulled up for delivering hate speeches over the last few days ahead of the Delhi elections, was chosen to deliver a motion of thanks to the President of India. At least 30 lawmakers assembled in the centre of the Lok Sabha waved placards and also shouted "Shame, Shame".
