New Delhi: The government declared Masood Azhar, Dawood Ibrahim, Hafiz Saeed and Zakir-ur-Rahman Lakhvi 'terrorists' under the amended Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2019.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification declaring the four individuals as 'terrorists' on Wednesday.
The decisions have been taken nearly a month after Parliament approved a crucial amendment to the UAPA law.
According to the recent amendments in the UAPA Act, individuals can be declared as terrorists. Earlier, only groups or organisations could be declared as terrorists.
Tuseef Ahmed, ETV Bharat correspondent To designate Azhar, who is the chief of the terrorist group 'Jaish-e-Mohammad', MHA mentioned five terror cases including the Pulwama attack on February 14 where 40 CRPF personnel were killed.
Lashkar-e-Taiba's Hafiz Saeed and his deputy Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi has been designated as 'terrorists' for involvement in four cases including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
Dawood Ibrahim was designated as a 'terrorist' for planning the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
The government has issued red corner notices against all four terrorists.
