Assam: River Desang continues to flow in severe situation

Central Flood Control Room on Monday said that River Desang in Assam started flowing in a severe situation. It also stated that water level continued to rise in River Gandak at Dumariaghat in Bihar's Gopalganj.

Guwahati: River Desang at Nanglamoraghat in Sibsagar district of Assam started overflowing on Monday morning at around 9 am, said the Central Flood Control Room.

The bulletin issued by the Central Flood Control Room said, "River Desang at Nanglamoraghat in Sivasagar, Assam continues to flow in a severe situation at 9 am today. At 9 am, it was flowing at a level of 62.32 m with 0.10 m above its danger level of 62.22 m&1.78 m below its previous Highest Flood Level of 64.1 m."

Central Flood Control room issues notice stating that river Desang in Assam is flowing above its danger level.

Apart from this, water level also continued to rise in River Dhansiri, Brahmaputra, Jiabharali raising an alarm for the state govt.

This comes after several districts of the state were severely affected due to heavy floods affecting over 2.5 lakh people and damaged more than 25,000 hectares of crops areas. The flood hits Assam at a time when the state was already reeling under the coronavirus crisis and battling a sudden spike in the COVID-19 cases.

The situation is no different in Bihar as River Gandak at Dumariaghat in Bihar's Gopalganj also continued to overflow at the same time today.

Central Flood Control Room said, "River Gandak at Dumariaghat in Gopalganj, Bihar continues to flow in a severe situation at 9 am today. At 9 am, it was flowing at a level of 62.32 m with 0.10 m above its danger level of 62.22 m&1.78 m below its previous Highest Flood Level of 64.1 m: Central Flood Control Room."

The bulletin stated, "River Bagmati at Runisaidpur in Sitamarhi district of Bihar continues to flow in a severe situation at 09:00 hrs today." (With inputs from ANI)
