Assam girl trapped in prostitution, turns out to be HIV positive

A 17-year-old pregnant girl was rescued from the New Delhi Railway station by Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR). Later, the girl tested positive for HIV.

Nw Delhi:The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) rescued a 17-year-old pregnant girl from New Delhi railway station, who was a forced into prostitution and later tested HIV positive.

Jyoti Rathi, member, a member of DCPCR said, "The girl was taken from her village by her 60-year-old neighbour and then sold to a man hailing from Punjab."

However, the victim managed to escape and reach Delhi and has been living at the railway station here for the past two months.

The DPCR member further said that the girl has been witnessing the horror for the last two years.

"The medical examination reports claimed that the minor has been sexually active since 2018. The medical examination revealed that she was 13-weeks pregnant", added Jyoti.

Later, when the Assam police investigated the matter, it has been revealed that her father had lodged a complaint four years ago in a local police station.

Later, the Commission for Protection of Child Rights taken the consent of her mother regarding the termination of pregnancy. Subsequently, the minor was admitted to a government hospital and the termination of the baby was carried out successfully.

Meanwhile, the victim has been shifted to a local NGO for better care.

The Commission told ETV Bharat, "Once the lockdown gets over, we will make necessary arrangements so that she can meet her family members."
