Guwahati: Incessant rain in Assam has worsened the on-ground situation with floodwater now affecting more than 16 districts in the state. The rising levels of Brahmaputra have added to the crisis, disrupting the lives of over 2.5 lakh people and leaving 16 dead.
According to Assam state disaster management authority, the recent floods have so far submerged around 706 villages in 16 districts.
A total of 142 relief camps have opened up and so far accommodate 18,000 people. Besides, the 16 killed due to floods, 21 have also succumbed to injuries sustained following landslides this year.
Over 2.5 lakh affected, 50% Kaziranga inundated It is to be noted that around 50% of the World famous Kaziranga National Park has been inundated by flood waters. Nearly 12,000 hectares of agricultural land has also been impacted by the floodwaters.

No casualties have been reported so far. According to reports, at least 70 camps inside the park have submerged. Heavy flood has forced the animals to move to highland areas.
It is to be noted that the rising water levels have also entered the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, forcing than 100 rhinos, 1,500 wild buffaloes, and thousands of hogs to highlands.
The water level of Brahmaputra, Dikhow, Jiabharali and Dhansiri rivers is continuously rising and has crossed the warning level.
Flash floods, mainly in Dibrugarh, brought the city into a standstill earlier this week. Most of the major roads, particularly towards the north of the city, have flooded. Near Rupai Tea Estate, an RCC bridge was washed away by the raging floodwaters of the Dangori River.
