New Delhi:As air quality slips into 'severe' category in several parts of Delhi, Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday targeted Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for the deteriorating air quality in Delhi.
Talking exclusively to ETV Bharat, BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao alleged that in the last five years the Kejriwal government has not taken any substantial steps to decrease air pollution.
Arvind Kejriwal responsible for Delhi's deteriorating air quality:BJP "Only the odd-even scheme has been implemented by the Delhi government and no major steps are being taken to combat air pollution. Even the odd-even scheme has also proved to be ineffective in the capital as the poor air quality continues to suffocate Delhiites," he added.
On being asked that the Kejriwal-led Delhi government has claimed that the central government should take steps to reduce smoke from stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana which has been identified as a major source of air pollution choking the national capital, "Delhi Assembly has been formed so that people of the capital get a better quality of life instead of excuses from the government. According to Arvind Kejriwal, the centre is responsible for everything and if he is unable to perform his duties then he should resign and centre will handle the situation," the minister said.
As air pollution levels are nearing 'severe plus category', schools in Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi have been shut for two days, hours after the apex court-mandated anti-pollution authority EPCA yesterday that they should be closed as pollution in the region hovered close to 'emergency' levels.
