Rajnath talks to Adityanath on incidents of violence in UP
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday held a telephonic conversation with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the wake of incidents of violence in the state.
Currently, Singh is in Washington on an official visit.
Several areas in Uttar Pradesh witnessed violent protests over the contentious amended citizenship law. A man died of firearm injury during a violent protest in Lucknow.
"I held telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanathji in connection with the incidents of violence in Lucknow and some other places of Uttar Pradesh today," he tweeted.

Uttar Pradesh DGP, OP Singh on reports of a protester dying in Lucknow during protests against Citizenship Amendment Act said, "firing was not done from our side. I do not know how that death occurred, I do not think it has anything to do with this agitation & police action."
OP Singh said that Situation is normal in the city, some incidents occurred at places where protesters had declared they will gather. They pelted stones at us & set ablaze OB vans of media. We chased them & fired tear gas, the situation has been controlled.
He added that 55 people have been arrested in the city, we are scrutinizing CCTV footage. SSP Lucknow will take appropriate action, police will not spare anyone.

Man dies of firearm injury suffered during violent protest against CAA in Lucknow
A man died of firearm injury suffered during a violent protest against the amended citizenship law in Lucknow.
"Mohammad Wakeel (25) died of firearm injury here," King George's Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre in-charge Sandeep Tiwari told media.
"Two other patients are undergoing treatment in the trauma centre and one of them has firearm injury," he said.
It is not yet clear from where the firing took place.

Lucknow witnesses unprecedented violence, media attacked
The Uttar Pradesh capital witnessed unprecedented violence on Thursday afternoon as protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) gained ground and the situation slowly spun out of control.
Protests against CAA began in old city areas in the afternoon and by evening, trouble spread to the city centre Hazratganj.
Police outposts in Madehganj and Thakurganj were set on fire, media persons were attacked and five OB Vans of channels were also set ablaze.
Vehicles of media persons and hawkers were also set on fire. A petrol pump near the UP Press Club was also vandalised. Two reporters were seriously injured in police baton charge.
Several policemen were also injured in the stone pelting, including Circle Officer, Hazratganj, Abhay Misra.
A huge turnout of common people was seen at Koneshwar crossing and Hussainganj which led to fracas with the cops.
Apart from the two police posts, the mob also set several police vehicles on fire. The police fired several rounds in the air and lobbed teargas shells to disperse the mob.

Violent protests hit Lucknow; police use tear-gas shells
Violent protests broke out in Lucknow against the new citizenship law on Thursday afternoon when a mob pelted stones and torched vehicles parked outside a police post.
DGP O.P Singh said that police had to fire tear-gas shells to control the situation in Madeyganj area.
"About 5 people have been taken into custody, ADG, law and order P.V, Rama Shastri said.
The tension was palpable in some other areas, especially the Muslim-dominated Old City areas, and police officials were having a tough time maintaining law and order.
Senior officers were camping in the areas disturbed by protests.
"Meanwhile, Congress sources said, UPCC president Ajay Kumar Lallu was detained when he was leading a protest against the law his party says is discriminatory in the busy Parivartan Chowk," near the District Magistrate's office.

Lucknow: Vehicles set ablaze in Hasanganj during protest against
Vehicles were set ablaze and a police post was vandalised in the Khadra area during a protest against the newly-amended citizenship law here on Thursday. Scores of protestors which gathered in the area to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 indulged into violent clashes with police.
Several vehicles were set ablaze, other public properties were also damaged in the area during the protest. Protests have intensified in several parts of the country after the Parliament gave the nod to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which became an Act after getting assent from President Ram Nath Kovind.
Section-144 has been imposed in various parts of the state in view of the prevailing law and order situation. The Act grants Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.

Anti-CAA stir: Internet services suspended in UP's Sambhal following violent protest
Internet services were suspended in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal on Thursday after a public bus was set ablaze and another damaged as a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act turned violent.
"Some of the protesters also pelted stones at a police station," District Magistrate Avinash K Singh said.
"The internet services have been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent rumour-mongering," the DM added.
"One state roadways bus was set on fire in Chaudhary Sarai area of the district on Thursday afternoon while another was damaged," Superintendent of Police Yamuna Prasad said.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
This is the first incident on the attack on state-run buses in the state in the wake of violent protests against the CAA.
"Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting unlawful assembly is in force in the state and no permission for any gathering has been given for December 19," Uttar Pradesh Police Chief O P Singh had said.
