HC holds special sitting to hear plea restrain rally in Chennai
Madras High Court on Sunday held a special sitting on Sunday to hear a plea seeking to restrain DMK & its allies from holding a rally in Chennai tomorrow against Citizenship Amendment Act. The high court permitted the rally with certain conditions.

Curfew imposed in Mangaluru will end tomorrow morning
As per the order of Mangaluru Commissioner of Police, the curfew which is imposed in the coastal city will end on Monday morning at 6 am. However, section 144 is continued till further orders of the commissioner of police.
The curfew was imposed in the city after the violence and police shoot out on December 19.

Cong, JDS leaders trying to mislead people on CAA-NRC: Yediyurappa
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Sunday charged the opposition Congress and JDS leaders with trying to mislead the minorities by making false claims and whipping up their emotions over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Citizen of Register (NRC).
"There are misconceptions about the two (CAA and NRC) and opposition leaders, including Siddaramaiah (Congress) and H D Kumaraswamy (JDS), are trying to mislead the people. They are trying to whip up the emotions of the innocent minorities," he said.
Yediyurappa was addressing reporters on the CAA and NRC issue that has triggered widespread protests across the country, including Karnataka.
Asserting that the opposition to CAA and proposed NRC have no base and fears on the issue were unfounded, the senior BJP leader said they would not cause any harm to any Indian.
"My appeal to the people is that CAA and NRC are nationalistic laws and they will not cause harm to any Indian. CAA and NRC are in tune with the Constitution and its secular
values," he said.
Hitting out at Kumaraswamy over his comments against the police firing in Mangaluru that left two people dead on Thursday after the protests there turned violent, the Chief
Minister said the JDS leader should know the facts about the incidents.
Police opened fire when a mob tried to storm the police station and loot the arms, he said.
Slamming Kumaraswamy for his statement that the mob in Mangaluru had not gathered to wage a war, Yediyurappa sought to know whether the violation of prohibitory orders was not a war against the constitution and the law.
"When the mob tried to disturb the peace and indulged in arson and looting should the police have to keep quiet? Are police not duty-bound to protect the innocents and property?" he said.
The opposition leaders were showing disrespect to the Constitution and the Parliament which had passed the citizenship amendment bill, he charged.

Former Karnataka chief minister and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday met the family members of two killed in police firing during a protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act on December 19.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families.
Targeting the BJP government, Kumaraswamy said, "Why the state government killed two innocents who were protesting against the Act?"
Two persons identified as Jaleel (43) of Kudroli and Nousheen (49) of Bengre had died at a private hospital following the bullet injuries they sustained in police firing during a protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
The police have also mentioned their names in the FIR registered in connection with the violence that erupted during the protests.
This comes amid large-scale opposition and massive protests across the country against the act, which seeks to grant Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who entered India on or before 31, 2014.

Anti-CAA protests: Students shave their heads in Puducherry
Students in Puducherry have adopted a unique method to demonstrate their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act by shaving their heads.
Protestors were seen shaving their heads and raising slogan denouncing the newly-enacted law.
Earlier on Thursday, various political, non-political and student organisations in Chennai protested against the Act, demanding the government to withdraw the new law alleging that it discriminates on the basis of religion.
Raising slogans against the CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC), the protestors claimed the act is against the Constitution as it has "discriminatory provisions."
Besides students, Congress and other opposition parties across the country are vociferously protesting against the CAA.
Protests have erupted in various cities against the newly-enacted citizenship Act, which grants Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
