New Delhi: A day after the official 'Ghar-wapsi' of Sachin Pilot, Congress party announced the Rajasthan political crisis, a "closed chapter" that ended "happily", stating that "All's well that ends well."

"The entire country witnessed how after 30 days, the political episode of Rajasthan has come to an end. This is indeed a victory of 8 crore Rajasthanis, as also all the Congress legislators and our well-wishers across the country," said Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, while addressing a virtual press conference, on Tuesday.

He gave full credit to Congress' former President Rahul Gandhi for the resolution of Rajasthan turmoil and handling the crisis over the party's state Government. Surjewala said, "This becomes possible on account of the vision of and belief of Rahul Gandhi in carrying all Congress leaders bereft of the differences of opinion that they may have."

He further added, "It was also helped by cooperation and assistance given by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. This may not be possible without the maturity shown by Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and also the inherent belief and commitment of Sachin Pilot."

A month-long political crisis in Rajasthan comes to an end, on Monday, after Pilot had a meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, after which he was being assured that a three-member committee will be formed to look into the matter and it will address all of Pilot's grievances.

When asked about the rift between Pilot and Gehlot, Surjewala added, "Yes, there were hot words exchanged and some bitterness that was posed. I think with yesterday's meeting, Sachin Pilot has resolved to work with Congress government in Rajasthan along with all MLAs who were temporarily annoyed with us. It is a closed chapter now."

Congress even called it a "befitting reply" to BJP, while alleging it of making attempts for toppling the state Government. Surjewala hit out at BJP, saying, "Despite being rejected by the people of Rajasthan, BJP was seeing to form a government in the state. These are the same people in BJP who are so badly divided into various groups and subgroups that they couldn't call the meeting of BJP legislature party and finally called 3 charter planes to take their MLAs away."

Even after the tenure of Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi got ended on Monday, there were no signs of the election of party's new President anytime sooner. However, Surjewala hinted towards the reappointment of Rahul Gandhi for the post but remained reluctant to announce when it is going to happen.

When asked if Rahul Gandhi is still not ready to take up the responsibility, Surjewala said, "I don't think either I or any of us have recently spoken to him on this issue. He resigned from the post on moral grounds, while taking the moral responsibility of the party's performance in the elections."

He further added, "I don't want to comment on the future, but I'm certain that good things will happen."

The demand to bring back Rahul Gandhi as the party President was also raised during the meeting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs with Sonia Gandhi, as the party leaders believe that Rahul Gandhi has the "courage" to take on Modi Government and therefore it is needed that he leads the Congress party.
