Hyderabad: Haryana Lokhit Party leader Gopal Kanda, the winning candidate from Sirsa assembly constituency in Haryana, emerges as the kingmaker who can help the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to form a new government in the state.
Gopal Kanda defeated his nearest rival Gokul Setia, an Independent, by a slender margin of 602 votes from Sirsa in the Haryana Assembly polls. Popular Haryanvi singer Sapna Chaudhary, who joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently, had campaigned for Kanda, leaving her party red-faced.

Kanda's relationship with the Chautala family did not work out when they refused to select Kanda as an INLD candidate in the 2009 state assembly elections. After facing rejection from INLD, he contested as an independent candidate from Sirsa and defeated the INLD candidate, Padam Jain, by a margin of 6521 votes.
