While terming the Bill as "undemocratic", senior AIUDF leader and sitting MLA in the Assam Assembly Hafiz Rafikul Isalm told ETV Bharat, "The Bill violates the basic character of the constitution. This is an anti-Assam Bill. We are protesting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill because if it gets passed in the Parliament it will pose a threat to the language and culture of Assam. It will negate NRC and Assam Accord."

Islam along with other AIUDF members was staging a protest demonstration opposing CAB at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

Continuing his tirade against the centre, Islam said, "Amit Shah and PM Modi are trying to impose this Bill on all of us in a Hitler-like fashion."

Taking a dig at Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Islam said, "Sonowal has bowed down before Nagpur (RSS) and BJP, he should resign immediately."

The AIUDF leader added that the BJP government might be able to get the Bill passed in Lok Sabha owing to its majority in the Lower House while appealing to other parties to oppose the Bill.
