New Delhi: As the Congress party is celebrating the 75th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, the All India Unorganised Workers Congress believe that the 74th constitutional amendment, pioneered by Rajiv Gandhi, has become necessary for urban India.

The AIUCW opined that the municipal corporation today have been unviable and inefficient leading to enormous sufferings and hence there is a need for peoples' involvement in the Transport and Urban department.

Explaining about the 74th constitutional amendment, AIUWC chairman Arbind Singh said that it has brought in fundamental changes in the unorganised sector as it includes the mandatory holding of periodic elections introduced in the 12th schedule reservation of seats for women among others.

Singh went on to add that municipal bodies in Delhi are in bad shape as municipal corporations and Delhi government are resisting the implementation of the Street Vendors Act.

The AIUCW has also decided to take up the issue in places particularly the Congress-ruled states to make the reforms feasible.
