New Delhi: The hooch tragedy in Punjab has claimed several lives and after opposition now, Punjab Congress parliamentarian has demanded a probe by High Court judge into this incident.
Pratap Singh Bajwa, MP Rajya Sabha from Punjab urged Chief Minister to request Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana high court to appoint a sitting judge to probe into liquor mafia in a time-bound manner and the report must be submitted within 30 days.
He also emphasized to recognise the nexus between bureaucrats, police officials and various individuals involved in illegal business.
In a statement, Bajwa said, "It would not have been possible if the state and its administrative officers were not involved. Officials under whose watch these tragedies unfold must be held accountable for their dereliction of duty"
Bajwa also said that DSPs should be barred from field postings and promotions for two years and SHOs shows should be barred from field posting for 3 year and promotions if these tragedies occurred under their jurisdiction. The SSP should be transferred immediately.
Bajwa attacked Capt government and said that it is not the first incident which has shown failures of governance. He mentioned previous incidents like Dussehra celebrations in Amritsar where a train accident claimed 59 lives and illegal fire factory in Batala claimed 23 lives.
The hooch tragedy in Punjab claimed 98 lives as on Sunday as 12 new deaths were reported after drinking spurious liquor. The Punjab government has ordered a magisterial probe into the case and Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Saturday ordered a suspension of seven excises and six police officials.
