Agartala (Tripura):The Tripura government on Monday launched 'Bamboo Rice' and claimed the protein-rich food can help in reducing joint pains.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who launched the 'Bamboo Rice' said that the unique product is made from flowers produced by bamboo aged between 30 and 40 years.

"Glad to announce that Tripura successfully produced 'Bamboo rice'. Launched 'Tripura Bamboo Rice' last evening. Bamboo rice has more protein than normal rice and wheat. It helps to reduce joint pain, back pain and other pain. It also contains anti-diabetic elements," Deb tweeted.

"By taking it regularly, you can get rid of cholesterol-related problems. Intake of bamboo rice is extremely useful to provide adequate vitamins to pregnant women. After Bamboo Biscuits, now 'Bamboo Rice' will play a crucial role in making Tripura's youth self-reliant," he added.

The Chief Minister also thanked the Tripura Bamboo Mission for the initiative, adding that the state government was committed to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of doubling farmers' income by 2022.

Pertinently, the Tripura Chief Minister had earlier in September launched special cookies made of bamboo shoot.

After launching the bamboo cookies developed by the Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI), he told the media that the new product would boost the people's immunity and livelihood as well.

BCDI's Tripura head Avinav Kant said that the cookies are made from the shoots of "Muli Bamboo", available in abundance in Tripura and other northeastern states.

The "Muli Bamboo", with the scientific name "Melocanna Baccifera", is rich with various vitamins and other healthy ingredients.

He said as the Muli Bamboo's nutritional value is very high, the cookies would be very healthy foodstuff in this Covid-19 induced situation.
