New Delhi:Railways earnings from the 200 mail/express special trains, which started operations from June 1, is around Rs 20-22 crore per day and the average occupancy in the 15 pair of a/c Special trains is 80 percent, said an official, on Monday.

He also mentioned that due to the reverse migration, the occupancy in trains going to big cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru from the states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal has reached more than 100 percent, indicating towards economic revival. These are the three states which accounted for 81 percent of the 4,596 Shramik Special trains that have been operated so far.

However, Railways is not getting any demand from the states to run Sharmik Special Trains as not a single train was being run on Sunday and neither any of it has been scheduled for Tuesday.

While addressing the press conference, Railways Spokesperson, DJ Narain said, "There was a demand for just one train from Karnataka and that train is running today from Bengaluru to Muzaffarpur. There is no demand for such trains tomorrow as well. We will run them if demand arises from the states."

He further explained that the demand for Shramik Special trains have been rapidly decreasing since the start of June and migrant workers were started returning back to the states where they used to work.

On the matter of resumption of passenger train services, Railway official replied that the decision will be taken in consultation with Ministry of health and Ministry of Home Affairs, depending on the COVID situation and the demands of the states. He also said that Railways has decided to generate refund of tickets which were booked till August 12.

On COVID Care Centers, the Railway official said that a total number of 59 patients were admitted since June 20, in Mau, Uttar Pradesh, out of which 56 have been discharged. While in the Delhi's Shakurbasti, 9 out of 32 have been discharged so far.
