7 Indians among those killed in NZ mosque shootings

Two from Telangana, four from Gujarat and one from Kerala have been killed in the March 15 shootings that took place in two mosques in New Zealand's Christchurch.

Hyderabad: The number of Indian killed in the gruesome shootings in two mosques in New Zealand's Christchurch rose to 7 on Saturday. According to reports, two people each from Telangana, four from Gujarat and one from Kerala succumbed to their injuries.

While Mohammad Farhaj Ahsan (30) from Hyderabad's Tolichowkihas been identified, Mohammad Imran Khan from Telangana's Karimnagar who went to Al Noor Mosque for the Friday prayers also breathed his last.

Reportedly, Ahsan was at Al Noor mosque for Friday prayers when the terrorist opened indiscriminate fire on worshippers.

A father of two, he used to regularly offer Friday prayers at Al Noor mosque as he lives in a nearby neighbourhood.

The 31-year-old's father Mohammed Sayeeduddin, who was hoping to hear some good news about his son, was inconsolable.

Grieving family members huddled in a corner at the family's house in Nadeem Colony of Toli Chowki area after the family received the shocking news.

Relatives and friends were pouring in to console the family.

Authorities in Christchurch informed Ahsan's wife and her uncle, who rushed from Australia, about his death.

They were at a hospital in Christchurch, waiting for some information since morning.

The four people from Gujarat are from Vadodara, Navsari and Bharuch. Reportedly, among the four killed, two people-- a father-son duo were identified as Arif and Rameez Vohra. The duo went to the Al Noor Mosque for the Friday prayers.

While Rameez (27) was living in New Zealand for the last seven years, his father Arif (58) was on a visit to Christchurch to meet his son and daughter-in-law.

The deceased from Navsari has been identified as Junaid Yusuf Kara and the one from Bharuch has been identified as Hafeez Musa Wali.

"Ancy Ali, a 25-year-old married woman from Kerala's Thrissur was among the victims," confirmed the Kerala Police.

"Ancy, who had migrated to New Zealand with her husband Abdul Nassar last year, lived near the mosques that were attacked," an officer at the Kodungalloor police station in Thrissur told media.

"Ancy was doing her post-graduation in Christchurch where her husband was working," the officer said.

Atleast 49 people were killed and 20 were injured seriously on Friday when a 28-year-old Australian citizen Brenton Harrison Tarrant sprayed bullets on innocents who gathered to offer Friday prayers at two mosques in New Zealand's Christchurch.
