Assam: Ahead of the publication of the contentious National Register of Citizens (NRC), Assam Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia on Friday said that the Centre has deployed 51 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to the state to maintain law and order.
"There are 167 companies of CAPF already deployed in the state and 51 more companies have come to join them. We have arranged all security measures to maintain peace," said Saikia while addressing the media during a presser in Guwahati.
The DGP added, “Ahead of NRC's final list release, we have taken care of all the security arrangements. Police and other security forces have also been briefed about the arrangements. Superintendents of Police in all districts have sensitized police personnel in order to assure proper security arrangements."
"We are looking at all the security angles and have taken measures to make the people aware. We're also keeping a vigil on social media. We will take stern action against those spreading fake news and hate messages through social media. I hope the people of the state will maintain peace this time also," Kuladhar Saikia said.
