20 people killed in landslides in Assam's Barak Valley region

As many as 20 people died in landslides triggered by heavy rains in three districts of Assam's Barak Valley region on Tuesday. Out of these 20 casualties, six have been reported from Karimganj district, seven each from Cachar and Hailakandi districts.

Assam:At least 20 people died in landslides triggered by heavy rains in three districts of Assam's Barak Valley region on Tuesday, according to a news report.

Out of these 20 casualties, six have been reported from Karimganj district, seven each from Cachar and Hailakandi districts.

The state which has been reeling under floodwaters following incessant rains has so far reported nine deaths owing to the deluge, with lakhs of people being affected in seven districts.

The floods have so far damaged crops in 2,678 hectares and affected 44,331 domestic animals and 9,350 poultry.

Several parts of Assam and Meghalaya have been receiving extremely heavy rainfall since May 20, after super cyclone Amphan weakened.
