Woman loses Rs 50,000 after ordering food online

A woman from Bengaluru lost Rs 50,000 from her bank account after ordering food online from a hotel by clicking on a link that offered an extra meal for free.

Bengaluru:A woman who intended to buy Rajasthani lunch for guests at home was cheated after ordering food online.

Savita Sharma paid Rs 10 to avail an offer of extra meal following a link sent by the hotelier. Then, Rs 50,000 was debited from her account and there was no response. She has lodged a complaint at the police station.

Earlier, Karnataka police busted a Rajasthan based gang that swindled people by creating fake social media accounts. The gang also used to create fake Aadhaar cards to obtain a large number of duplicate SIM cards.

Cyber ​​expert, Abhinav Saurabh said," The cybercrime cases are of varied types. These range from defacement of government websites, online financial frauds, online stalking and harassment, and data thefts. Each requires specialised investigative skillsets and forensic tools. A cybercriminal can sit anywhere and hack people's bank account. Any device running on the Internet can be easily hacked. In such a situation, to catch cybercriminals, the police should be prepared and one should report immediately."
