Agartala:The 50th Independence day of the neighbouring country Bangladesh was observed with great enthusiasm through several programmes in Agartala on Friday. Tripura played a strategic role in the Bangladesh liberation war and thus this Northeastern state always remained very special to Bangladesh as well. In order to showcase and relive the contributions made by Tripura, several programmes were organized in different parts of the state.
The central observation was held at Bangladesh assistant high commissioner office Agartala, where celebrations commenced with formally hoisting the national flag.
Reminding the contributions of India in Bangladesh's independence, Assistant High Commissioner Bangladesh, Md Jobayed Hossain said, "Indian government and Indian military forces helped Bangladesh attain independence. After the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman announced Bangladesh's independence on this day, the nine-month-long struggle was started. The prolonged struggle that saw the supreme sacrifice of more than 20 lakh freedom fighters ended bringing Bangladesh on the world map as a sovereign country".
He said, on March 28 a programme will be organized in his office to commemorate the Bangladesh freedom struggle.
