Ex CM Hooda asks Centre to avoid confrontation with farmers

Former Chief Minister of Haryana and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda asked the Union Government to avoid confrontation with farmers and find an amicable solution.

New Delhi: Former Chief Minister of Haryana and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda asked the Union Government to avoid confrontation with farmers and find an amicable solution. Hooda made the remarks as farmers' protest in Karnal demanding action against Sub Divisional Magistrate Ayush Sinha entered the second day in Karnal.

While addressing media, Hooda said, "Farmers have every right to protest peacefully for their demands over Minimum Support Price guarantee. Go and see what is the position in mandis as even input cost of the farming is not covered." He demanded that the government should immediately initiate talks with the farmers and come up with solution. Hooda also urged for a judicial inquiry over the matter under a sitting judge of High Court or a retired judge of Supreme Court.

As mentioned earlier, farmers have been protesting in Karnal demanding action against SDM Ayush Sinha. They have been demanding independent inquiry over the matter as the official was seen in a viral video directing police officers to bash the heads of protesting farmers if they cross barricades. Bhartiya Kisan Union Leader Rakesh Tikait alleged that the officers are not ready to suspend the SDM and therefore they have decided to continue with their protest.Stalemate between farmer leaders and local administration continues as three rounds of meeting have failed.
