Assam girl prevented from entering exam hall for wearing shorts

A teenage girl who went to appear university entrance examination wearing shorts was prevented to enter the hall and made to wait. Later, the girl was finally allowed to give the examination after her father brought a curtain and wrapped it around her.

Tezpur: A teenage girl was made to wait for some time prior to giving an entrance examination for wearing shorts. The incident took place in northern Assam's Tezpur town recently. The girl had worn shorts and went to an educational institution to appear for the entrance examination for admission into an agricultural university.

Although she had carried all necessary documents required for the examination, the on-duty officials made her wait outside the exam hall. When she had asked the reason for being stopped, she was told that shorts were not allowed in the exam hall.

"It was not mentioned in the admit card. I had carried all the documents that were mentioned and required for admission into the exam hall. However, they stopped me from entering the hall saying that I am wearing 'half pants'," said the girl.

Although the girl referred that nothing as such has been mentioned in the admit card, the on-duty officials said that "it is common sense". The officials also asked her to bring a pair of long pants as a condition for entering the exam hall.

Finally, the girl managed to enter the exam hall after a prolonged wait as her father managed to bring a curtain which she wrapped around her and sat for the exam.

Social media has gone abuzz over the issue and hundreds of people slammed the educational institution for having such rules that affect people's freedom.
