Asaduddin Owaisi changes plan, not to meet Atiq Ahmed in Sabarmati Jail

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi who arrived in Gujarat's Ahmedabad will not meet Atiq Ahmed in Sabarmati Jail. Ahmed, a mafia don from Uttar Pradesh who has several criminal cases filed against him is currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail in a murder case. Earlier, Owaisi had said that he would meet Atiq Ahmed in prison.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat):All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi who arrived in Gujarat's Ahmedabad will not meet Atiq Ahmed in Sabarmati Jail. Earlier, Owaisi had said that he would meet Atiq Ahmed in prison. The AIMIM MP was supposed to visit the Sabarmati Central Jail at 10.30am.

Besides this, Owaisi is also slated to meet many leaders of Muslim society and office bearers of social institutions in Ahmedabad.

Ahmed, a mafia don from Uttar Pradesh who has several criminal cases filed against him is currently lodged in Sabarmati Jail in a murder case. Earlier, the former MP and muscleman had filed a petition seeking exemption from personal appearance in the court. He had appealed for hearing via video conferencing citing Prayagraj's distance from Gujarat and his poor health conditions.

Last year, a joint team of the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), district administration and police, had demolished a house belonging to Ahmed here as part of its drive against his unauthorized properties.

The house that was demolished was worth Rs30 crore and was built illegally on around 700 square metres of land, the officials had said. While carrying out the demolition, the officials of the joint team had to face stiff resistance from a group of lawyers and the former lawmaker’s supporters who raised objections over the exercise and created ruckus on the Chakia Road in the city.

Several properties of mafia dons, including Mukhtar Ansari and Ateeq Ahmad, have been razed by the state government in recent months in multiple locations across several districts.
