New Delhi: Amid the ongoing speculations of a 'new role' either in Punjab Government or in party's state unit, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu met party chief Sonia Gandhi at her residence, here in Delhi, on Monday.
Amid speculations of 'new role', Navjot Singh Sidhu meets Sonia Gandhi Congress' former president Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with Harish Rawat and KC Venugopal were also present during the meeting.
While Sidhu avoided speaking to the media, Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat said that the meeting was called to discuss ongoing farmers agitation.
"Congress leadership asked for the assessment of the farmers' protest. We have called many other Punjab leaders as well. Navjot Singh Sidhu came here today for the same process," he said.
When asked about the speculations of change in the Cabinet or Congress' Punjab Unit, he said that right now, farmers' agitation is more important than any other issue.
While slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his speech in Rajya Sabha, Rawat said, "PM has called his seniors, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, 'agitators' as these all are the products of agitations. Congress always had ideological differences with BJP. Today as well, we believe there is a threat to farmers as well as to democracy."
Congress General Secretary in-charge KC Venugopal also attacked the prime minister and added, "his speech was very disappointing. No answer to unemployment, no answer to farmers' distress. He is totally distorting the current political issues."
