After losing parents to COVID-19, bereaved medico finds comfort in service

Apeksha Maradia, a second-year medical student from Rajkot, lost her father to the deadly virus on April 6 and her mother four days later. Despite this, she reported to duty at Samras COVID-19 centre on April 27.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Apeksha Maradia lost both her parents to COVID-19 in April. Yet within a few days, Maradia, a medical student reported for work in a COVID-19 ward to save as many lives as possible.

Apeksha Maradia, a second-year medical student from Rajkot, lost her father to the deadly virus on April 6 and her mother four days later. Despite this, she reported to duty at Samras COVID-19 center on April 27.

She said she wanted to forget her sorrows by doing everything she could to save others' lives.

"I would be paying true tributes to my parents by saving lives of others' parents," she said.

Maradia assists the medical team in handling patients’ reports, maintaining oxygen levels and giving them medicines among others.

About her first experience, Apeksha said recently she took care of a patient in critical condition.

"I am happy because the patient’s condition has improved," she said.
