Bengaluru: Although the COVID-19 caseload is reducing in the state, the threat of new virus variants is looming. In a recent development, the 'Delta Plus' variant of coronavirus has also been found in Mysuru, Karnataka. A case of 'Delta Plus' variant was recently found in Maharashtra, too. Delta Plus Virus (DELTA PLUS: Delta + K417N)was detected following a genomic sequencing conducted by National Center for Biological Science in Bengaluru. According to health experts, the delta plus virus has a high transmission rate and the intensity of infection is also high.
Meanwhile, Dr Bagadi Gautam, District Collector of Mysuru said there has been no official confirmation regarding the detection of the 'Delta Plus' variant. Speaking to the media at the DC office, he said 40 samples related to Delta Plus were sent by Mysuru Medical College and Research Center to Nimhans Hospital of Bengaluru. The government has undertaken measures to unlock the state following a decline in the number of cases. However, Mysuru has been kept under lockdown.
