Chennai: Tamil actor Vijay has filed a civil suit against his parents for using his name just as his fan club members are gearing up to face the local body elections in the state. He filed the case against 11 individuals, including his parents. He has sought the court to restrain them from conducting any meeting or activity using his name and to issue an interim stay against them. His fan club functionaries were listed as respondents in the actor's petition.
The case has been listed for hearing on September 27. The actor had shot off a legal notice to his father SA Chandrasekhar advising him not to use his name in any manner to venture into politics. "The actor has no connection - neither direct nor indirect to the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam(VMI) and Akila Indiya Thalapathi Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI)... and its subsequent actions thereof," according to the notice. Both VMI and AITVMI were floated by his father and filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar. Shoba Chandrasekhar, Vijay's mother, has also been listed as one of the office-bearers.
Earlier on Friday, office-bearers of Vijay's fan club met in Panaiyur near Chennai where they had resolved to contest as independents and not representing the fan club. It is learnt that the functionaries were told that there was no bar on using the actor's image as publicity material during the campaign. The decision to contest is to test waters for the actor if he chooses to take the political plunge.
