Midnapore (West Bengal):Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and MP Abhishek Banerjee MP said Suvendu Adhikari, who recently defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), betrayed the people.
Banerjee was speaking at a public meeting in Midnapore. Minister Soumen Mohapatra, MLA Jyotirmoy Kar, Ardhendu Maiti, Akhil Giri and many others were also present at the event.
''From here Matangini Hazra, inspired by Gandhiji, took part in the 'Quit India Movement against the British empower. But Shyamaprasad Mukherjee supported the British in opposing that movement," Banerjee said.
Taking a potshot a Suvendu, he further added: "Who insulted Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Matangini Hazra, Shuvendu Adhikari has sold the land and honour of Midnapore to that BJP government in Delhi."
